Life and where it leads us

As many of you know, I am one of those greatful Grandparents.  Each one is different and unique.

My Grandson Alex, 14 was accepted into the Rogers Heritage Baseball team.    The coach he’s had for the last several years has been hard, firm, encouraging, and all around a great coach.  I appreciate Coach Paul and others like him so much.  In life we all need mentors, someone in our field, or just someone that inspires you.

People have asked me, why do people read your blog.  My answer is, I don’t really know. lol  I guess, for some, it helps pass the time of day. (I’ve heard that before)  My blog started out as just something fun to do, and it made my time go by quickly, while I was going through the loss of my Mom and my Grandma, and quite possibly the passing of my Dad as well, since his health is not so good either.  His birthday is September 6, and he will be 80.  He’s decided to live that long, and he will see after that.  I told him, to make sure I get the memo if he decides to check out after that.  Really?  Life doesn’t work like that.

Back to the grandchildren though, they truly are the best part of life.  They can make you absolutey melt when they say something that is just so cute, you don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

I wish we could skip the parent stage and move right on into the GrandParent  stage.  We are much better equiped to handle things, being older.

I had McKenna (3) overnight last night, and of course, she doesn’t want to sleep in the bed we have for her here, she looks at me and says very softly, I love you Grandma and I’m going to miss you when I have to go home to Mommy and Daddy.  Of course I said I’m going to miss you too!  I didn’t tell her I wasn’t going to miss the bed hog that she is.

One day not too long ago, we had a lot of the grandkids over and Alex said of the two little girls arguing, Oh geez, Grandma!  I laughed and said “Really Alex?”  He was the worst one as a little kid, but I still loved him so much.   Little did we know, he had allergies, that caused horibble outbursts.  Growing up and starting into the school age, teachers wanted him to be on Meds.  I’m so glad his Mommy and Daddy were on the same page and decided not to.  They were told he was ADD and ADDHD or whatever.  They decided to have him on the Feingold diet instead.  If you are a parent are dealing with this situation, please please look into the Feingold Association.  www.feingold.org

I personally have seen kids, in 3 days be a totally different child once you get all the food coloring, preservatives, etc out of their little brains.  It’s a little stressful at first when you are learning what they can and can’t eat, but so worth it, when it becomes second nature.  And trust me, you will know when they have eaten something they shouldn’t.  It will take about 24 to 48 hours to get it back out of their system.  I will do another blog on this later.  My daughter used to feel bad and say things like she felt she was a bad mother.  I said OH NO YOUR NOT, YOUR SON IS ALIVE!  Other parents might have killed him. lol

My children, through marriage, also made me a Great Grandma.  I’m only 59 and didn’t appreciate that too much, in the beginning,  It’s ok though, because they are awesome.  I hear complaints sometimes from people that FaceBook has way too many pictures of kids.  I disagree.  The kids are the future, and I love looking and watching them grow up.

I recently had the pleasure of watching a little 6 month old for a week.  My daughter called me and asked if I would watch her while the parents were looking for another babysitter.  OMG, she was so cute.  I enjoyed every minute.  It took all my strengh to be able to let her go.  Since I live quite far away from them, it wasn’t practical for them to have me watch her on a full time basis.  While I was holding her on the last day, I was thinking how funny it was that I was watching the daughter of a little girl who used to play at my house after school.  And that God had arranged my life at that moment in time to be able to say YES!
