Trip to Upstate New York 7/17/15

imageThis weekend we had a little get away. We took our plane and went to Bryan’s class reunion at Union Springs Academy, in Union Springs, New York. A little trip down memory lane. I got to meet some of his fellow classmates, and their wives and husbands. I would like to thank all those who put hours into putting it together. It was a fun, lively weekend.

On the way out, Bryan told me we had a hotel reservation, for Saturday night at the Roland House, which is part of the Inns at Aurora. We didn’t have one for Friday night. (I hate that, the what if you can’t get a hotel room.) We stopped by the hotel to see where it was and it turned out to be a bed and breakfast.

Oh no, it’s beautiful, but I hate bed and breakfasts. Here’s Why…

We went to England for a Towshow. Stayed at a bed and breakfast. The room consisted of small TV, a sink, no toilet and a small bed. Toilet and shower was down the hall, and felt like six others were using the same bathroom. Other peoples things were everywhere. We got there too late for dinner, so we had to walk to the nearest pub, which closed 5 minutes before we got there. I was not a happy camper. We had walked past a gas station to get there, so we bought junk and went back to go to bed. Yuck! We only stayed the one night, needless to say!

Now, granted, on another trip, to England, we stayed in a lovely Bed and Breakfast, on the Cliffs of Dover. It was beautiful, with the bathroom in our room, and the most wonderful people who owned the property, that took excellent care of us. I remember sitting at the dinning room table having breakfast, and we were telling them what our plans were. I remember the gentleman scolding Bryan for the quickness of our trip. He told him, you Americans think just because you go and take pictures of a place, that you have been there. You two need to slow down and appreciate the place. They were awesome. As a side note, nothing’s changed as far as that goes. It’s still quick to visit and move on.

So back to this weekend, when we pulled in, I gave him a dirty look. You didn’t tell me it was a bed and breakfast. His response? But honey, it’s right on the water, and it’s 450.00 a night, and I did it for you! Come on, it will be great. It was! Lucky for him, it was beautiful. I highly recommend it.  Here are some of the pictures inside.

And the outside was equally as impressive…

Somethings in life deserve second chances, and this one was well worth it!

So, before we went go back home we stopped to see Cornell University, which is huge, and beautiful.   We stopped to see the water fall, at Ithaca Gorge.

Then he wanted to show me Enfield Glenn where they used to go as a kid and hike and swim.

He wanted to hike the hike, him and his father did, the year before his father was murdered. Fine! this was not in my plan, or I would’ve worn my tennis shoes, instead of my beautiful new Yellow Box flip flops.

I guess I didn’t pay attention to the sign, 2 Miles, ONE WAY!

Almost back to the beginning

So 4 miles hiking later, up the hills, down the hills around the falls. Some of the trail had mudd holes, and on one one of them, I slipped and got my toes all full of mudd. Not a happy girl. We came to a spot where I could wash my feet and flip flops in the water. They handled the hike magnificently, and would so recommend Yellow Box flip flops to anyone.

When we finally got done, he said, he thought that must not be the hike they took, because he didn’t remember it being that intense! Yeah right, I think he just wanted to do it. Ok, check! One more thing off the bucket list. Good thing God impressed me to lose 5 pounds the week before. That was harder than the Mount in New Zealand we hiked to the top of.

Well, good bye Upstate New York, but before we go, we grab some lunch, as we were starving. We get into the car and it starts to pour down. Plus it’s lighting. By the time we get to the airport, it had moved past and out of the way. Everything is great, until about an hour out of a 6 hour flight, there are storms on both sides of us, but a window we can go through. Yes, until all of a sudden, it starts pouring and it gets really violent. Bryan said he pulled the power back so not to break the wings off as we got sucked up about 3500 feet. Up is better then down, in my opinion.  Things are bouncing all over the place, and thank God I always have my seatbelt on, unless I’m trying to get him something. I’m in the back and holding on for dear life.  It felt like 5 or 10 min. but Bryan said it was only a couple of minutes.

I had changed where I was sitting in the back, so I could use the headset to talk to him, and got buckled back up. It was 15 min or so later, that it happened, so I could hear him say, it’s ok, honey, hold on. Just a few more minutes and we will be through this. One of the longest few minutes of my life, and I am so grateful that he is such a great pilot. It was smooth the rest of the way home.  So glad to be home.

He snapped a picture of me doing this blog that I’m putting the finishing touches on now.

While we were gone, I was able to share the Kangen Water with many people. I hope that I was able to touch those that God wanted and will use it to His Glory in some way. I made many new friends and it was a weekend we will always remember!

  1. Wow… brought back a lot of childhood memories. Ithaca was such a nice place to grow up. Did you take any pictures of the house on Burdick Hill Road? Was the tractor trail still there or is it all built up… I’m sure it is. Enfield Glen was always a great place. Glad Bryan took you there. Looks like you had fun there and a wild ride back! Glad you’ll made it back okay.

  2. Have a question since I left my first message my e-mail has a small problem… it doesn’t seem to refresh…. anyone else having this problemafter leaving a message on thid site?

  3. Holy Cow Christy! What a ride back home! I was in the same rain storm near Ithica that you were in, over near Groton, NY visiting Jocey Quaile (Bryan would know of her and/or her many siblings). I am glad you got to stay at the Aurora Inn….a favorite place of mine too! Great blog! Nope, flip-flops usually don’t handle well on hikes. Hope to see you guys soon. Love to you both,
    ~~Linda
